Restricted and Non-Restricted Browsers

• How can I prevent students from cheating during an exam?
  
• How can I prevent students/SPs from communicating with others or accessing the internet or other applications during data entry?
  
  

Restricted and Non-Restricted Browsers are one option that can curtail cheating and accessing peers, applications, or the internet while inputing data into LearningSpace. As part of METI LearningSpace® 2011, you can access and download a few specialized Windows applications providing features not possible to implement when accessing LearningSpace in a regular browser application, like Internet Explorer, Safari or Firefox. These special LearningSpace Browsers only run on Windows and should be installed on LearningSpace learner and/or SP data entry stations by LearningSpace administrators and local client computer administrators. They represent an optional way to access LearningSpace and by no means necessarily replace your existing browsers. You may decide you want to try these apps if you are interested in one of the following two features:

• Making sure your learners (and perhaps SPs as well) cannot do anything on their computers beyond accessing LearningSpace and doing their data entry tasks. Essentially, eliminating the chance of cheating by using the internet or by communicating with their peers using the computers.

• Using magnetic or proximity swipe cards to simplify learner or SP login to LearningSpace.
